Extraction

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jaw when it can’t be saved with other treatments. Extractions may be necessary due to severe decay, infection, trauma, crowding, impacted wisdom teeth, or to prepare for orthodontic or restorative procedures. Removing a problematic tooth helps relieve pain, stop the spread of infection, and preserve overall oral health.

How It Works

Before the procedure, your dentist will evaluate the tooth and may take X-rays to plan the extraction. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area so you won’t feel pain, though you may feel pressure as the tooth is gently loosened and removed with specialized instruments. After the tooth is extracted, the socket is cleaned and you’ll be given detailed care instructions to support healing and reduce the risk of complications like infection or dry socket.
